I have a laser pointer which takes two double A batteries for power, and I want to power the laser pointer with my car battery. How do I step the voltage down, and keep from overpowering the laser?

As I have seen a jumping spider on my desk, I wanted to check out if they have really good eyes. So you can see, the spider has no problems to follow the red dot.
